SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces have detained more than 100 suspects and “terrorists” in the country in just one week, according to a military spokesperson.
Iraqi Federal Police arrested 98 wanted persons and 11 “terrorists” between May 21 and May 28, said Yehia Rasool, spokesman for commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces.
Units of the federal police also seized 405 narcotic pills and four kilograms of crystal meths, he said in a tweet on Friday.
They also destroyed 13 Islamic State (ISIS) hideouts and seized 54 weapons, 35 explosive devices, 19 rocket launchers, seven Katyusha rockets and six SPG-9 rockets as well as 15 mortar shells during the period, he added.
Recently, Iraqi security forces have increased operations against ISIS militants in the country.
The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.
Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
