SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq is keen to develop its relations with the world, said the country’s national security adviser during a meeting with a Georgian diplomat on Monday.
Qasem al-Araji held talks with Georgian Ambassador to Jordan Zaza Kandelaki, who also accredited to Iraq and Lebanon, in Baghdad on Monday, according to sate news agency INA.
The two sides discussed strengthening relations between Iraq and Georgia in a way that serves the interests of both countries and their people, INA reported.
“Iraq is keen to develop its relations with everyone, especially Georgia, by exchanging experiences and information in the field of combating terrorist groups,” Araji was quoted as saying.
“Terrorist groups still pose a real threat to the whole world,” he added, stressing that the need for international cooperation to eliminate those groups.
The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.
Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
