Iraqi activist killed in north of Baghdad – reports

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An Iraqi activist was killed by gunmen in north of Baghdad on Friday, according to Iraqi media.

National Iraqi News Agency reported that unidentified gunmen assassinated Hisham al-Hijazi, head of the Tarmiyah Youth Relief and Voluntary Association, in Tarmiyah district.

“The gunmen escaped to an unknown place,” a security source told NINA.

Meanwhile, Shafaq News and Baghdad Today reported that al-Hijazi was killed by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in a street inside the district.

More than 30 activists have died in targeted killings and dozens of others abducted, some detained briefly, since October 2019.
