Kurdistan Region coronavirus death toll rises by 19 to 3,989: health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s death toll from coronavirus rose by 19 to 3,989, health authorities said on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement that seven new deaths were recorded in Erbil, two in Sulaimani, five in Duhok, one in Halabja and four others in Garmian.

It further said it had registered 969 new cases of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 148,109.

As many as 159 cases were in Erbil, 389 in Sulaimani, 355 in Duhok, 24 in Halabja, 39 in Garmian and three more in Raparin, it added.

The health ministry also said 878 patients had recovered from the virus.

Kurdish health officials have warned that the Kurdistan Region is facing a “dangerous phase” of the coronavirus pandemic, urging people to follow the health guidelines designed to curb the virus spread.
