Police arrest man in Erbil for forging hundreds of documents

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Police said on Monday that they had detained a man in Erbil for counterfeiting hundreds of government’s and consulate’s documents.

The General Directorate of Police in Erbil said in a statement that its units had seized 329 various fake documents and equipment as well as weapons in the suspect’s house in the city.

The seized materials included documents of Iraqi, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and consulates, stamps of border crossings and airports, postage stamps, identity cards including military IDs, courts’ communiques, medical statement and translated documents, police said.

Other documents were related to marriage, certificate of birth, driving license, vehicle annual registration, bank accounts, information cards and Iraqi national certificate as well as foreign relations’ communique and stamps, the statement read.

“He was able to get visas of foreign countries for himself and other people through the fake documents,” police added.

“The suspect had confessed to his crime,” Erbil police stated.
