Iraqi foreign minister meets Arab League Secretary General in Cairo

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Secretary-General of Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Egypt’s Cairo on Monday, the ministry said in a statement.

The Iraqi foreign minister arrived in Cairo on Sunday to meet Egyptian officials including President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Hussein is expected to conclude agreements signed by leaders of Iraq, Egypt and Jordan during their last meeting in Amman in August.

Hussein discussed challenges facing Arab countries during his meeting with the Arab league secretary-general in Cairo, the foreign ministry said.

The Iraqi official also met Egyptian President Sisi on Monday. They discussed bilateral relations and ways to advance them to serve the interests of the two countries.

He also discussed the next summit between the top Iraqi, Egyptian and Jordanian officials scheduled for the first quarter of next year, according to a separate statement by the Iraqi foreign ministry.

Sisi, for his part, handed over a letter to the Iraqi foreign ministry to deliver it to Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the statement read.
