SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region announced on Sunday that the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan will be Tuesday.
“The crescent has not been sighted in the Kurdistan Region’s skies,” the ministry of endowment and religious affairs said. “Tuesday, April 13, 2021, will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.”
Meanwhile, Iraq’s Sunni Endowment said the crescent had not been sighted on Sunday evening and that Ramadan would be on Tuesday.
Earlier on Sunday, the Region’s Supreme Committee to Combat Coronavirus said mosques would be reopened for the holy month of Ramadan, but Muslims should wear masks and take their own prayer rugs to the mosques.
“Hand shaking is completely prohibited,” the committee said in a statement. “Preachers should give instructions to prayers.”
