Members of party congress vote to rename KIG as Kurdistan Justice Group

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Members of the fourth Congress of the Kurdistan Islamic Group voted on Friday to rename the party as the Kurdistan Justice Group on the second day of the event. 

The party held its fourth congress at the Sulaimani international fair on Thursday. On the first day, members of the congress voted to re-elect Ali Bapir as the party’s leader.

On the second day of the event, as many as 22 people were also elected as members of the party’s leadership council, including four women.

Members of the fourth congress also rebranded the party’s name as the Kurdistan Justice Group/Iraq.

The participants also discussed a proposed strategy for the party for the next four years during the event.

The Kurdistan Islamic Group was established on May 31, 2001. The party was supposed to hold its fourth congress last year, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
