SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, state news agency INA reported.
The foreign minister will meet senior Iranian officials, including his counterpart Mohammed Javad Zarif, INA cited spokesman of Iraqi foreign ministry Ahmed al-Sahhaf as saying.
Hussein is expected to discuss a number of common issues between the two countries, according to INA.
His visit came just three days after U.N. envoy to Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert paid a two-day visit to Tehran to meet Iranian officials.
Hennis-Plasschaert visited Tehran on Sunday and Monday for talks with Iranian officials on regional issues as part of efforts to support stability in Iraq, according to a UNAMI statement.
