SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces detained five members of Islamic State (ISIS) militant group in Kirkuk on Tuesday, the intelligence agency said.
The Iraqi Agency of Intelligence and Federal Investigation said its units detained five ISIS members, including a woman, in several areas in Kirkuk province.
“The first terrorist worked as a healer for ISIS militant group in the so-called Kirkuk district and the second terrorist worked to distribute so-called guarantees to the group’s sleeper cells,” the agency stated.
“The third terrorist, known as Abu Hajer, and the other terrorists worked within the so-called Hawija district,” said the intelligence agency.
The ISIS members participated in six “terrorist operations” against security forces in the province, it added.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
