Iraq’s Salih stresses need for cooperation to maintain security, stability

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi President Barham Salih on Tuesday stressed the need for cooperation to maintain security and stability.

Salih met with Pakistani minister of defense production Zubaida Jalal Khan, who arrived in Baghdad on Sunday for a four-day visit.

Salih said during the meeting with the Pakistani minister that the world and the region was facing the same challenges, including terrorism, extremism and escalation of tensions that affect global security and stability.

“This requires international cooperation so as to face these challenges and maintain international security and stability,” Salih added.

He also stressed on the “importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the defense field between the two countries,” the Iraqi presidency said in a statement.

The Pakistani minister affirmed her country’s commitment to support Iraq and consolidate bilateral ties and military cooperation in the field of training Iraqi security forces, according to the statement.
