SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Senior officials from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region congratulated Joe Biden on his inauguration as the 46th president of the United States
The officials said they were looking forward to working with Joe Biden, the Democrat sworn in as U.S. president on Wednesday after four years under Donald Trump.

Iraqi President Barham Salih released a statement late on Wednesday, congratulating Biden on his inauguration as president of the United States.
“We look forward to building on the deep ties that bind our two nations, and to further extending the strategic cooperation that we already enjoy,” Salih said.
“We also welcome the opportunity to work closely with the United States to ease regional tensions and promote peace and stability in the Middle East,” he added.
– Kurdistan Region –
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani wished Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris success in leading the American people.
“On behalf of the Kurdistan Region, I would like to congratulate President @JoeBiden and Vice President @kamalaHarris on their historic inauguration,” Barzani said in a tweet.
“[I] look forward to working with our friends in the new administration,” he added.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also tweeted congratulations to Biden and Harris, saying he looks forward to “working closely with you to strengthen the KRG-US partnership and restore much-needed certainty to the region”.
Co-leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Lahur Sheikh Jangi said in a tweet that he looks forward to “our continued cooperation in the region and efforts to maintain stability and security. I wish your administration the best of luck.”
