SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The United States on Tuesday denied it had carried out airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias in Iraq.

Some Iraqi media reported multiple explosions in Jurf al-Sakhar in Babil province overnight on Monday.

Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen cited sources as saying the explosions were caused by airstrikes and that American aircraft were flying over the Al-Qaim area along the Iraqi-Syrian border.

Captain Bill Urban, a spokesman for the U.S. Central Command, said the United States had not conducted any strike in the area.

“Explosions reported earlier today about 40 miles outside of Baghdad, Iraq, in the town of Jurf Sakhar were not the result of U.S. military action,” Urban said.

BBC reporter Nafiseh Kohnavard tweeted earlier on Tuesday that Telegram channels linked to “Iran/axis of resistance are talking about an ‘Israeli attack’,” after the U.S. denied carrying out any airstrikes in Iraq.

Israel has yet to confirm or deny the airstrikes.

Iraqi media reported that nine members of Iraqi forces and Hashid al-Shaabi were killed in the airstrikes.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Security Media Cell also denied that the security forces had been attacked in Babil province on Monday night.
