SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Today is the Islamic Prophet’s Mawlid, an annual celebration honoring Muhammad’s birthday on the customary date of 12 Rabi’ al-awaal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.
On August 29, 570 CE or 12 Rabi’ al-awaal, the third month in the Islamic calendar, the prophet Muhammad was born. It was the prophet’s sixty-third birthday. The first birthday celebrations for the prophet were held in the 12th century and they were frequently followed by a month-long celebration.
The prophet Muhammad was descended from Hashim’s clan and the Quraysh tribe at birth. The Ka’bah, a historic and well-known pilgrimage shrine is located in his hometown of Mecca.
On this day, the majority of Muslims commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. Like many other Islamic holidays, Mawlid al-Nabi, or simply Mawlid, is celebrated by Muslims as a show of respect and adoration for Muhammad, whom they acknowledge as God’s messenger.
