SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two members of Kurdistan Parliament on Tuesday called for their immunity to be stripped so as to appear in court on the issue of smuggling.
In a statement, Lawmakers Daban Mohammed and Ali Hama Salih called on the parliament’s presidency to strip them of immunity from prosecution.
“We have complete evidence about smuggling on the border crossing of Bashmakh, and we have asked the parliament’s speaker to lift their immunity in order to appear in court,” the lawmakers said.
Their request came after Penjwen investigative court called on the parliament to strip lawmaker Hama Salih of immunity from prosecution due to a lawsuit filed against him at the court.
The court said in a communique it sent to the parliament on December 14 that the directorate of Bashmakh border crossing community had filed a lawsuit against the lawmaker for accusations he had made against the directorate.
MP Hama Salih has been accusing officials and political leaders of involvement in smuggling through the border crossings.
