SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani received a UN delegation led by Claudio Cordone, Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs and Electoral Assistance of the UNAMI.
The meeting, held in Erbil today, comes after the extension of the UN mandate in Iraq and one of their areas of work is to assist Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in holding fair elections.
In the meeting, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at the extension of the UN mandate in Iraq and hoped to play an important role in the holding of the next parliamentary election in such a way that the results are credible to the citizens.
The KRG DPM said that “there is no excuse for further postponing the election, especially as the Independent High Electoral Commission has made full preparations for the election.”.
