SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, met with Philip Gordon, US President Joe Biden’s assistant and Vice President Kamala Harris’s national security advisor, in Washington, DC.
In the meeting, which was attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Relations Bureau, they discussed the political and security situation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, as well as the issue of elections and reaffirmed the consolidated national efforts to make the political process successful.
President Bafel Jalal Talabani stressed the need to hold fair elections on time and the need to remove obstacles to the process in order for it to become an important step towards change in governance and the development of democracy in the region.
International coordination to fight terrorism and maintain regional security was another topic of the meeting. President Bafel stressed that the threat of terrorism continues and poses a serious threat to regional stability, so we emphasize cooperation and coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the international coalition forces in order to eliminate the threat of terrorism and overcome security challenges.
In response, Philip Gordon stressed the importance of holding free and fair elections on schedule and said that the political stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq should be protected، and efforts should be within this framework.
