Seven workers have died on the job since the beginning of the year

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) “Seven workers، mostly construction workers، have died since the beginning of this year” said the president of the Sulaimani branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Union.

Chalak Rauf, the president of the Sulaimani branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Union, told Esta Media Network that “the number of deaths and injuries of workers is increasing day by day. Last year 25 workers died and seven workers have died this year till now.”.

He added that “the majority of victims are construction workers, the main cause of which is related to employers not complying with working conditions and not forcing their workers to use preventive measures.”.

He revealed that “the fact that construction workers do not use safety measures has become a culture for us and the government has not been able to raise awareness among construction workers to comply with the preventive measures; on the contrary, factory workers themselves ask their employers for preventive measures.”.
