SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leadership council stated that there would be no need for “distress” if the Iraqi government were to directly distribute salaries to public servants in the Kurdistan Region.
Rewaz Fayeq, a former head of the Kurdistan Region Parliament and current PUK leadership member, responded to the opposition expressed by certain members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) regarding the proposal for direct distribution of salaries to public Servants in the Kurdistan Region by Iraqi Government without involving the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Fayeq emphasized that “no mechanism has been determined yet, and therefore there is no need for distress.”
Public servants in the Kurdistan Region, including teachers and health workers, are facing a distressing crisis as they remain unpaid for several months. The salaries for August, September, and October have yet to be distributed, placing a significant economic burden on these dedicated public servants employed by the KRG.
