SULAIMANI (ESTA) — U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Monday that at least 11 American citizens were among the casualties in Israel as a result of the recent attacks carried out by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

The United States government believes it is probable that American citizens are also among those who have been taken hostage by Hamas, according to a statement made by President Biden.

However, White House national security spokesman John Kirby later clarified that it has not yet been confirmed if any Americans have been taken hostage.

Biden also stated that for those who wish to leave the area, there are still commercial flights and ground transportation options available. He advised individuals to exercise caution and follow the guidance provided by local authorities.

Over the weekend, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Israelis and the capture of numerous hostages. Israeli television channels have reported that the death toll from the Hamas attack has risen to 900, with over 2,600 individuals injured.

In response, Israel has conducted airstrikes in Gaza, leading to the deaths of at least 687 Palestinians and the injury of 3,726 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Biden has instructed his team to collaborate with Israeli counterparts on all aspects of the hostage situation, including the sharing of intelligence and the deployment of experts from the U.S. government. Additionally, he mentioned that police departments across the United States have increased security measures around Jewish centers in light of these events.
