SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to convene a session on Thursday in order to summon several government officials for questioning, according to the chamber’s agenda.

The session will commence at 1:00 p.m. local time and the parliamentary committees will be invited to pose inquiries and receive clarifications from the officials.

Narmin Ma’roof, a member of the Finance Committee, told Esta Media Network that they had previously extended invitations to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi Finance Ministers to attend the session on Thursday.

“The purpose of the invitation is to deliberate on matters such as the salaries of KRG employees, oil and non-oil revenues, oil contracts, and the number of KRG employees,” she said.

Ongoing disputes between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Baghdad have resulted in public employees in the Kurdistan Region being deprived of their salaries for the months of August and September.

This situation has prompted many employees in the Region to take to the streets in protest, leading to the closure of numerous public sector institutions, including schools and universities.

The delay in salary payments has caused widespread frustration among the affected employees, who are now demanding a swift resolution to the ongoing disputes between the KRG and Baghdad.
