SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The fifth Congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is continuing for the second day in the City of Sulaimani.
The congress has brought together 600 party members and leaders from diverse political parties in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq after it was officially kicked off on Wednesday.
The congress, which is currently on its second day, has organized committees to discuss relevant issues related to the party’s policies and strategies.
Esta has learned that the program committee appointed leaders to head various committees, including Stran Abdullah as the head, and Jamil Hawrami as the supervisor of the Peshmerga, Martyrs, and Prisoners Committee.
It also appointed Hakm Sabir as the head of the complaints committee, and Arez Abdullah as the head of the party education committee.
Arez Abdullah was also appointed as the supervisor of the political speech committee.
PUK cadres said these appointments signify the PUK’s commitment to “effective leadership” and “accountability.”
During the evening of Wednesday, the second segment of the fifth congress was held, resulting in the unanimous re-election of Bafel Jalal Talabani as the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
Meanwhile, Kosrat Rasul Ali and Hero Ibrahim Ahmad were also unanimously appointed as the supreme symbol of the PUK for their role, position, and efforts in the party’s history.
“The congress provides a valuable opportunity for members to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards finding solutions to the issues affecting the Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” a senior member of the PUK told Esta.
“The PUK has always been dedicated to serving the people of the region, and this congress is a significant step towards achieving that goal,” he added.
PUK Congress is sechuled to be concluded on Friday.
