Deputy Prime Minister calls for avoiding Peshmerga Ministry from political conflicts

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani received a high-ranking delegation of the Global Coalition forces in Erbil on Monday.

The delegation was headed by the outgoing commander of anti-ISIS Operation Inherent Resolve, Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane.

The two discussed several important matters related to the reforms within the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces.

At the outset of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister hailed the Coalition commander upon completion of his mission in Iraq and Syria.

He also acknowledged the pivotal role of the outgoing Coalition commander in building coordination between the Peshmerga and the Coalition forces.

In the meantime, the Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the incoming Coalition commander, Maj. Gen Joel B Vowell, and wished for further Peshmerga-Coalition coordination to combat the threats.

Discussions between Talabani and Vowell also included the ongoing reforms steps within the Peshmerga Ministry. Both sides agreed on the necessity of implementing the reforms stage by stage as the way was planned.

Meanwhile, Talabani called for avoiding the Peshmerga Ministry from the political conflicts, calling on Peshmerga officials to implement their duty to build a national trained force.
