SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Tuesday stressed that the citizens should not pay the price of the political conflicts, calling for restoring trust between the Kurdish and Iraqi parties.
Deputy Prime Minister Talabani met with the newly-appointed United Kingdom Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Charles Hitchen.
During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, the Kurdistan Region’s internal disagreements, including the reforms with the Peshmerga forces.
They also stressed that all parties should be committed to implementing the federal budget law in order to safeguard the rights of everyone.
“The lack of trust is the main reason for the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, including the Region’s internal disagreements,” Talabani told the Ambassador.
He also called on all parties to work to restore trust, saying “The citizens should not pay the price of the political conflicts and the absence of trust between the parties.”
Regarding the reforms within the Region’s Peshmerga forces, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that “We insist on implanting the reforms.”
“We will do everything possible to not allow the political disagreements and tensions to affect the Peshmerga reorganization,” he said.
In the meantime, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that in order to succeed in the Peshmerga reforms “all parties should act responsibly.”
