SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Senior Iraqi officials, including the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan President, met in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Wednesday to discuss the federal oil and gas draft law.
The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, where Iraq’s Foreign Minister, as well as Oil Minister, attended.
“The participants discussed the importance and the political and economic consequences of the draft,” the readout of the meeting said.
In the meantime, PUK President Bafel Talabani underlined the obstacles before passing the oil and gas law during the meeting, according to a separate statement released by Talabani’s office.
Talabani also stressed that the law must bring political, as well as economic stability, and bolster the economic infrastructure of Iraq.
“The law must be passed on the foundation of understanding and compromise between the parties,” Talabani said.
“Oil and gas must bring a brighter future to the people. These national resources should serve the state’s prosperity,” Talabani added.
