SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday discussed reforms within the Peshmerga Ministry with the commander of anti-ISIS Operation Inherent Resolve, Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane.
The two sides discussed the problems and obstacles before the reform process and exchanged their views regarding resolution, according to a statement released by Barzani’s office.
“Both sides agreed that the process of reorganization and reunification of the Peshmerga and the reforms within the Ministry has not been implemented properly according to the program set for it,” the office said in the statement.
In the meantime, Barzani affirmed the continuation of the efforts to succeed in the reform process, as well as reunifying the Peshmerga forces. He also commended the role and position of the United States for supporting the process.
“Erbil-Baghdad relationships, the general situation of the region, and several important issues were discussed as well with the presence of the US Consul General in Erbil,” the statement added.
