PUK, Gorran discuss Iraq’s provincial elections

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) on Monday discussed the forthcoming provincial elections in Iraq.

A PUK delegation made a visit to the headquarters of Gorran in Sulaimani City, according to Esta Media Network reporter.

In a meeting, the two sides discussed the current political situation of Kurdistan and Iraq, as well as the Iraqi provincial elections.

“They highlighted the elections in the disputed-Kirkuk province,” the reporter said.

“They also discussed the participation of the Kurdish parties in Kirkuk with a single electoral list,” he added.

Iraq’s provincial elections are scheduled for Dec. 18, the country’s first local vote in a decade.

The Kurdistan Region is excluded to participate in the provincial elections,  the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) said, citing “technical reasons”.

The Iraqi government has not yet scheduled the country’s next general elections.
