SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq is many years behind where it should be, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani said.
Talabani’s words came amid a live interview that broadcasted on the London-based radio station LBC.
He also said that the new government in Iraq led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani “has very interesting ideas,” to rebuild the country.
“I can see Mr. Sudani with genuine plans to build Iraq and build its institutions,” he said
“The financial stability in Iraq will empower people to less wish to move to the United Kingdom,” he added.
“This a huge massive opportunity for the United Kingdom to make investments and huge infrastructure project.”
In the meantime, PUK’s Talabani called on the United Kingdom to maintain its ties with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for “multi-beneficial” projects.
“I would encourage the UK to close no ties with Iraq and Kurdistan,” Talabani said.
“We are very mineral rich, which is been untapped, we are oil-rich and very very gas-rich,” Talabani continued.
He further pointed out that “there is a lot of human resources in Kurdistan that is also untapped.”
Speaking on the migration issue that engulfed the United Kingdom as the government cracks down as continues to stop boats from crossing channels, Talabani said that there should focus on the source of the migration rather than the actual borders.
“We already provided most information more than any country regarding illegal immigration and that is not having an affect”
“The way forward is to stop it from the source. Safety, more financial security, as well as fiscal security, stops migration.”
