100 thousand tourists expected to visit Sulaimani during Eid al-Adha

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Sulaimani is expected to host 100 thousand tourists during the Eid al-Adha holidays, according to a local official on Tuesday.

As Muslims’ prominent feast of Eid al-Adha approaches, the Kurdistan Region’s checkpoints have been overwhelmed by tourists with the vast majority from southern Iraqi provinces.

Ako Ahmed, the head of Sulaimani tourism said they had deployed dozens of teams at gates and checkpoints to welcome the tourists who visit Kurdistan.

“We are welcoming the tourists with sweet and tourism instructions,” Ahmed told Esta, reporter. “We expect 100 thousand tourists to visit Sulaimani,” he added.

Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice, is celebrated by Muslims across the globe. It is the second major Muslim festival in the Islamic calendar after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting.

This year, Muslims’ celebrations of Eid al-Adha will begin on June 28, and lasting for four days.
