SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A Russian soldier was reportedly killed in Syria on Monday as a result of an alleged Turkish shelling, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.

The attack occurred near the Umm Al-Hosh-Harbel farms in the countryside of northern Aleppo, allegedly leaving four others in serious injuries after targeting a Russian personal carrier, according to SOHR.

Russia frequently carries out joint patrols in northern Syria. It has been engaged in Syria for almost eight years, intervening in the Civil War in 2015.

Moscow has since expanded its military facilities in Syria with a permanent air and naval base, favoring President Bashar Al-Assad in power.
