Syrian Foreign Minister to visit Baghdad in bid to foster ties

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Syrian Foreign Minister is expected to arrive in Baghdad this evening in a bid to foster Iraq-Syria bilateral ties, according to the spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Saturday.  

“The Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Al-Miqdad, will arrive in Baghdad this evening,” Ahmed Al-Sahaf, spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited by the State News Agency (INA) as saying.

The Syrian official is set to meet with three presidencies of Iraq, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, according to Sahaf.

“The visit will focus on bilateral relations between Baghdad and Damascus, and Iraq’s role in restoring Syria to its seat in the Arab League,” He said.

Iraq and Syria “will also discuss ways to advance relations to achieve the interests of the two neighboring peoples,” He added.
