Deputy Prime Minister receives Duchess of Edinburgh

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Tuesday received Her Royal Highness, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, in the city of Erbil. 

In a meeting, the two sides highlighted the issue of women’s rights and combating domestic violence, according to a press release.

It added that the Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed they had made significant steps with civil society organizations in the direction of spreading awareness as well as eliminating violence.

“In addition to eliminating gender-based violence and domestic violence, our efforts also aim to empower youths and women to be a more effective part of society,” Talabani said, according to the press release.

Discussions also touched upon psychological treatments of war and catastrophes survivors, underlining the United Kingdom’s experience in this regard.
