PUK President receives Japanese ambassador to Iraq

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Sunday received the Japanese ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto, in Sulaimani City.

The two sides discussed the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, according to a statement released by Talabani’s office.

They also laid emphasis on understanding and persisting dialogue between the parties in order to resolve the problems and overcome the challenges.

Further, Talabani addressed the Ambassador about the unification of the national efforts to settle problems and issues relating to the elections, explaining his party’s stance on them.

“All of our efforts aim to achieve a positive result and serve the citizens more,” He said.

“Talks on holding the election in the Kurdistan Region are still ongoing,” He added.

“I hope the disputed points on the election will be resolved as soon as possible to hold a pure election on time.”

The statement also added that the meeting also highlighted strengthening the Kurdistan Region’s economic infrastructure, including bolstering Kurdistan-Japan political and economic ties.
