SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s Counter Terrorism Group (CTG) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Anti-Terror Units (YAT) on Tuesday carried out a joint operation in northeastern Syria.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Global Coalition, targeting an active cell of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) terror group in Dier Ezzor, SDF said in a statement.

“The operation resulted in arresting two terrorists, who were responsible for the killings and assassinations against military forces and the region’s dignitaries, in addition to smuggling the terrorist operatives,” the statement said.

“Several weapons, ammunition, and communication devices were also confiscated during the operation,” the statement added.

Islamic State, which declared a caliphate straddling parts of Syria and Iraq in 2014, has lost all territory that was under its control in 2019.

However, the group continues to wage a low-level insurgency in both countries.
