SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani received a top Iraqi security delegation on Saturday in Sulaimani, where they highlighted the drone attack on Sulaimani.
Under the direction of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, a top Iraqi delegation led by National Security Advisor Qassim al-Araaji, National Security Agency Chief Hamid al-Shatri, Counter-Terrorism Agency Chief Abdul Wahab al-Saadi, and Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Brigadier Qais al-Muhamadawi, has visited Sulaimani.
The delegation aims to probe Friday’s drone attack that targeted Sulaimani International Airport on Friday.
The PUK President’s media office in a statement revealed that the top Iraqi delegation has been received by Talabani, and noted that they discussed the latest security developments.
“Talabani and the top Iraqi security delegation stressed protecting the country’s sovereignty and integrating efforts to prevent the repetition of similar incidents,” the statement read.
Talabani also thanked the delegation and extended words of gratitude to Prime Minister Sudani for taking stances against this dangerous development, calling for probes’ results to be disclosed to the public regarding the drone attack, according to the statement.
He further said that the Sulaimani International Airport incident is unacceptable, noting that the PUK is paying the price of its national stances, adding, “We have expected political parties’ solidarity against the attack, but we never expected the local security agencies to implement foreign plans.”
The statement added that National Security Advisor Qassim al-Araaji expressed his happiness as the drone attack did not affect Sulaimani’s situation and people’s lives.
“We strongly condemn this undesirable incident and stand against criminal acts against our land and people,” al-Arraji said, according to the statement.
