SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani in a statement on Saturday congratulated the Assyrian, Chaldean, and Syriacs communities on the occasion of their new year.
Today marks the advent of the Assyrian-Babylonian New Year 6773 and Akito Eid.
“I congratulate our Chaldean, Assyrian, and Syriacs brothers and sisters on the occasion of Akitu. I wish you a happy and prosperous eve,” Talabani said.
Talabani further stated that the PUK has an unwavering belief in the pluralism and diversity of Kurdistan, and looks at the religious and national differences with immense respect and appreciation.
“On this special occasion we stress protecting and enhancing the spirit of harmony and coexistence,” Talabani added.
The leader also called on all parties to collectivity work with a fraternal spirit despite the differences for a more prosperous and brighter Kurdistan, according to the statement.
