SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Wednesday received a delegation from the European Union parliament in the capital Erbil.
In the meeting, the EU delegation stressed strengthening Kurdistan in the frame of a “strong” Iraqi Federal, a readout released after the meeting said.
The EU delegation also stated that all of the “golden” achievements of the Kurdistan Region were obtained during the time of unity and harmony of Kurdistan’s political forces, it added.
In the meantime, Talabani explained, today’s challenges are service and improving people’s livelihood, saying, “It is the time for good governance.”
He also added that “Currently we are not united in Kurdistan which is the reason for being weak in Baghdad.”
Moreover, Talabani stressed that all of the efforts must be allocated to secure the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements in the federal budget along with addressing the oil and gas issue.
Both sides agreed on holding a free and fair election in the Kurdistan Region to be the foundation for real representation in the next government.
The Deputy Prime Minister also separately received German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Italian Ambassador to Iraq Maurizio Greganti on the same day, covering topics on Kurdistan-Baghdad relations, and internal issues, including the overdue election of the Kurdistan Region parliament.
