U.S. Ambassador says she ‘welcomed’ Kurdistan President

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The U.S. Ambassador in Baghdad said on Saturday that she “welcomed” the Kurdistan Region President, Nechirvan Barzani.

Ambassador Alina L. Romanowski revealed that she welcomed Kurdistan’s president in the Iraqi capital.

“Welcomed  Nechirvan Barzani to discuss improving IKR unity, implementing Peshmerga reforms, strengthening GOI-IKR relations, & bolstering US-Iraq relations. Baghdad-Erbil cooperation essential to delivering results to the Iraqi people & the region,” the ambassador tweeted.

In the meantime, the presidency of the Kurdistan Region has also released a separate statement on the president’s meeting with the U.S. Ambassador.

“The meeting discussed Erbil-Baghdad relations and the latest developments in the talks between the Iraqi Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to resolve the outstanding issues between the two sides,” the Kurdish statement said.

Moreover, the Ambassador reiterated the US support for the dialogues and the efforts to resolve the issues between Erbil and Baghdad, according to the statement.
