PUK President congratulates Iraq over hosting Arabian Gulf Cup

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President, Bafel Talabani, on Friday congratulated Iraq as it hosts the 25th Arabian football Gulf cup in the southern city of Basra.

The opening match of the 25th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup in Iraq’s southern port city of Basra kicked off on Friday in the city’s International Stadium.

It is the first time that the country has hosted the tournament since 1979.

“The 25th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup is a historic event after an extensive time,” said Talabani in a statement.

Talabani further wished success for the “national” team, according to the statement.

“We hope that this will be a beginning of Iraq’s strong come back to regional and international centers,” Talabani added.
