SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s public prosecutor has called to hold the Foreign Minister accountable over “giving away” thousands of diplomatic passports to “inappropriate” individuals, Iraqi media on Monday reported.

The public prosecutor called Baghdad’s Karkh investigations court to take legal action against, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussain, over “giving away thousands of diplomatic passports,” the media cited an official document as saying.

It further added that “The Foreign Minister has also violated the laws of the Iraqi Council of Representatives since he was not answered the call of the chamber over the case.”

The number of people who holds Iraq’s diplomatic passports is estimated at 15,000, Esta has learned.

Earlier, in early December, Iraq’s committee of integrity demanded the Foreign Ministry send a list of those individuals who hold diplomatic passports, according to a decree.

The Ministry did not answer the demand.
