Tourist visits to Sulaimani rose during New Year’s Eve holidays: Spokesman

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The number of tourist visits to Sulaimani almost doubled during the New Year’s Eve holidays compared to the same period in 2021

“During the holidays, the number of tourists reached 57,500 people, witnessing a surge as compared to the same period in 2021,” the Spokesman of Sulaimani tourism, Aram Shwani, on Monday stated.

He also revealed that the vast majority of the tourists came from southern Iraqi province, accounting for almost 90%. 8% were from Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhalat) and the rest were foreign tourists.

“In the same period of 2021, the number of tourists who were received by Sulaimani only accounted for 30,000,” according to the spokesman’s words.

Sulaimani witnessed the “calmest” day during New Year’s Eve day, recording no crimes or any major incidents despite the presence of thousands of tourists in the city, said Sulaimani police in a statement on Sunday.

Local authorities in Sulaimani had launched the biggest New Year’s Eve festivities across the city to celebrate the new year of 2023 since the early December of 2022, attracting many to come to the city.
