SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A court in Kurdistan Region on Tuesday sentenced two suspects to several years in prison over drug trafficking.

Two suspects were sentenced to prison after a court in Garmian administration received concrete pieces of evidence on trafficking with narcotic drugs, said the Directorate of the security forces (Asayish).

It also stated that the suspects admitted to their crimes before the court. The first suspect has to serve 5 years in prison while the other has to serve one year, according to Asayish.

Kurdish officials have warned that drug trafficking threatens to become an epidemic if anti-narcotics forces fail to curtail its rise in the Kurdistan Region.
