Ex-Deputy Premier of Iraq dies at 63 from illness

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Politician and post-2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq Deputy Prime Minister Salam al-Zaubai died on Monday.  

Al-Zaubai died, aged 63, after suffering from illness who had been in India for treatment, Iraqi reports said.

Al-Zaubai was the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq from 20 May 2006 to 1 August 2007 as well as the acting Defense Minister from 20 May 2006 to 8 June 2006.

He was elected to the Iraqi National Assembly in December 2005 as part of the Sunni Arab-led Iraqi Accord Front list.

On March 23, 2007, Zaubai was wounded in an attack involving a suicide bombing and car bombing at a mosque near his home in Baghdad, and he was taken to a U.S. military hospital in the Green Zone for surgery.
