SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday arrested an Emir of the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group in northeastern Syria, according to a statement.

The forces in the statement announced that it had arrested an Emir with two other terrorists in a chain of joint operations with the Coalition forces.

The arrested terrorists were responsible for supplying the terrorist cells with weapons and ammunition in an attempt to target the prisons and al-Hol camp, according to the statement.

It further stated that the operations were carried out in the towns of al-Hol and Tal Hamis as well as in Deir az-Zor.

Syria’s al-Hol houses tens of thousands of women and children. It is a desert camp run by Syrian Kurdish forces for 60,000 people from more than 60 countries, holding those who have a suspected link to ISIS.

The camp is located in northeastern Syria’s Hasekeh governorate.
