Qubad Talabani receives first post-2003 Iraq’s Premier

SULAIMANI (ESTA) —  Supervisor of President Mam Jalal’s Secretariat Office Qubad Talabani on Wednesday received veteran politician and first post-2003 Iraq’s Premier Ayad Allawi in Sulaimani.

In a meeting, the two officials discussed the latest changes in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region political arena, read a statement from Talabani’s media office.

The two sides have laid emphasis on supporting the new Iraqi cabinet headed by Mohammed Shia al Sudani, in a direction of putting the plans and project on its feet for sake of serving people, the statement added.

For his part, Talabani commended Allawi’s role for the efforts that he has made in both the pre and post-2003 era for building a democratic diverse Iraq and establishing peace, according to the statement.

Moreover, Talabani pointed out Allawi’s friendship and his co-struggling with the late leader, President Mam Jalal Talabani, in the past stages until the formation of the first government after the fall of the former Baath regime in 2003.

The officials have also stressed accelerating reforms steps in all administrative joints, combating corruption, enforcing security and stability, and making efforts to provide the needs of the people,  the statement continued.

Sudani’s cabinet took office in late October, ending more than a year of deadlock since a parliamentary election.
