PUK President, Iraqi Justice Minister highlight rule of law

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Bafel Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Sunday in Baghdad met with the Iraqi Minister of Justice where he offered “complete” support to the official, according to a statement.

President Talabani met with Justice Minister Khalid Shwani, and he renewed congratulations for Khalid’s appointment for that position, said Talabani’s office in a statement.

In the meeting, Talabani hoped Minister Khalid to play an effective role in law enforcement, social equality, and protecting the rights of all of the Iraqi nations, the office added in the statement.

He further hoped the Justice Minister to serve the disputed-Kirkuk province as well as other disputed territories which have been claimed by both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal Government.

Talabani also reiterated the “complete” support of the PUK for the execution of the court decisions and the impartiality of the judicial authority.

For his part, Justice Minister Shwani promised to be the preserver of the law and the independence of the courts, according to the statement.

“We will put our entire effort for the sake of protecting the law and people’s lives. We will be the servant of everyone,” The Justice Minister said.
