SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has once again in less than a week arrived in Baghdad to continue his meetings with the political leaders of Iraq, a statement Sunday said.
Last Tuesday, after meeting with the Iraqi President and Prime Minister, and a number of political leaders and high officials of the country, President Barzani canceled his remaining meetings, said a statement from the Presidency of the Region.
He decided to return to the Kurdistan Region to participate in the funeral of the victims of a gas explosion in Duhok that killed more than six people on Monday, it added.
Amid the continuation of President Barzani’s meeting, he met with the Head of the Azem Alliance, Muthanna Abdul Samad al-Samarrai.
“The meeting discussed the latest political and security developments in the country,” the office of the Region’s presidency in a separate statement said.
The two sides emphasized the importance of cooperation among the Iraqi parties to overcome the difficulties and to support the new government and its agenda.
They also reiterated the importance of improved cooperation, strengthening of citizen rights, and broader teamwork, according to the statement.
Apart from this, Barzani met with Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji as well during the same visit, exchanging views about the political and security situation of the country.
The officials shed the light on the support and coordination between the Kurdistan Region government and the Federal government, stressing adopting dialogue and diplomatic approaches as well as mutual understanding to preserve Iraq’s sovereignty.
Both sides have agreed on the importance of coordination between the two governments, particularly to combat the terrorists and control the borders.
