SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani Saturday met with politician and former Prime Minister of Iraq Adil Abdul Mahdi in Baghdad, said Talabani’s office.
In a meeting, the latest political developments and the agenda of the new Iraqi government were discussed, said a statement from Talabani’s office.
The officials have also laid emphasis on succeeding in the reform process and offering more service, the office in the statement added.
Moreover, President Talabani commended the role of Abdul Mahdi for supporting the Kurdish cause in different phases and their just rights, according to the statement.
“PUK will not forget the nice stances of all figures and national forces that once were advocators of the right of the Kurdish people, making efforts for harmony and coexistence between the Iraqi nations,” Talabani said.
He also stressed that the PUK still works with that policy, seeing itself in protecting stability, unity, and harmony which was the policy of the former Secretary-General of the PUK, late leader Mam Jalal.
For his part, Adil Abdul Mahdi as well, commended the role of Talabani as a “young” and “impactful” leader who pursue peace in the “difficult” phases, stepping toward coming closer and resolving the issue, read the statement.
“The current PUK Policy led by President Talabani, is the reminder of the wise policy that Mam Jalal had adopted, looking at fulfilling the high national objectives as a priority,” Abdul Mahdi told Talabani, according to the statement.
Talabani arrived in the Iraqi capital in the evening hours of Saturday, prior to Abdul Mahdi, he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani together they discussed the latest political, economic, and security developments.
Meanwhile, Talabani and Sudani stressed coordination as well as integration of the efforts for the sake of succeeding in the agenda of the Iraqi government which sees itself as “offering service, law enforcement, and bolstering the pillars of statehood,” said a statement.
They also touched upon the issue of coordination between the Kurdistan Region forces and the Iraqi forces to protect the security of the borders, making “necessary” decisions in that regard.
