SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Saturday in Baghdad.
In a meeting, the latest political, economic, and security developments were discussed, Talabani’s media office in a statement said.
The two sides stressed coordination as well as integration of the efforts for the sake of succeeding in the agenda of the Iraqi government which sees itself in offering service, law enforcement, and bolstering the pillars of statehood, according to the statement.
For his part, President Talabani referred to the implementation of the “national” points that had been established in the government agenda.
“The political agreement between the Kurds and the Iraqi political parties must be respected,” said Talabani. “The constitution must be a foundation for resolving issues, adopting real partnership,” he added.
Speaking about offering more service by the government, Talabani said “it’s the duty of the new government to serve everyone equally and justly.”
Talabani also stressed that political disputes shall not be mixed with governance as well as people’s rights.
“PUK will always support to fulfill these high objectives,” Talabani told Sudani.
Another part of the discussions touched upon the issue of coordination between the Kurdistan Region forces and the Iraqi forces to protect the security of the borders, and necessary decisions were in that regard, the office added in the statement with further elaboration.
