SULAIMANI (ESTA) — U.S. central command said its Green Village military base in Syria Thursday was targeted with rockets resulting in no injuries or damage, it said in a statement.

Rockets targeted coalition forces at the Green Village base in the northeast of the country causing neither casualties nor damages to the base, according to the statement.

“U.S. forces in northeast Syria are investigating the incident,” the statement added.

U.S. forces first deployed in Syria during the Obama administration’s campaign against Islamic State, partnering with a Kurdish-led group called the Syrian Democratic Forces. There are about 900 U.S. troops in Syria, most of them in the east.

U.S. troops came under rocket fire in the same area in September this year, in apparent retaliation for U.S. air strikes against Iran-aligned militia in Syria and Iraq.

Iran-backed militias have established a foothold in Syria while fighting in support of President Bashar al-Assad during the country’s 11-year-long war.
